Happy Day, Mother Earth

The theme of Earth Day 2021 is "Restore Our Earth," focusing on restoring the world’s ecosystems through natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking.

At IMV we believe that all living forms deserve the same amount of respect. Preserving the life of endangered species is an important goal of IMV.  From rhinoceros, to manta rays, to endangered large cats, we are constantly working with experts to keep our world full of life’s beauty.

Today we will be sharing with you some of these cherished experiences in celebration of this planet we call home.

Scanning Manta Rays

Researchers from the Manta Trust and Cambridge University Veterinary School verified the our Duo-Scan:Go Oceanic works in field tests carried out in collaboration with the Vetsonic (UK) Ltd and Six Senses Laamu, a five-star resort in the Maldives with a nearby resident reef manta ray population.

Successfully scanning the often-skittish reef manta rays was no small feat, commented Dr. Guy Stevens, Co-Founder and Chief Executive of the Manta Trust.

“When the project began, none of the team knew whether scanning wild reef manta rays would even be possible. What has been achieved is beyond what we could have hoped for,” commented Dr. Stevens.

“More than just scanning a reef manta ray and proving that this contactless technology works, we were able to obtain the first ever scans of wild reef manta rays; pregnant and non- pregnant females, as well as mature males.

“Manta rays are threatened worldwide and we still know so little about their reproductive strategies. The ability to scan pregnant individuals will be invaluable in our quest to protect them,” commented Dr Stevens.

Scanning Sharks

Beneath the Waves CEO and Chief Scientist Dr. Austin Gallagher, explains the benefit of scanning in the water and underwater. “Underwater scans open up a whole set of new research experiences and settings – allowing us to evaluate large sharks in their environment. This can reduce the stress placed on the animals from heavy capture and restraint, and will eventually give researchers the chance to scan animals without capturing them.”

Gallagher illustrates how this will impact future excursions, “Being able to determine pregnancy status faster, easier, and in more environments could greatly advance conservation efforts. This type of data, when collected over time, can create the evidence needed to inspire marine protected areas, especially in areas where sharks may not be protected.“

Scanning A Giant Anteater

Our crew at IMV Technologies Brazil does some amazing work alongside, Reprocon, a reproduction for conservation nonprofit.

Pictured here is them working on the Brazilian species, a Giant Anteater. With the valued support of the Zooguarulhos opening their doors for Reprocon's work, they allowed the development of reproductive biotechniques working toward the conservation of this endangered Brazilian species. A light on the real and important role of zoos.

Scanning a Jaguar

Reprocon (Reproduction 4 Conservation) emerged through the association of researchers reference in the reproduction of livestock and wild animals. Together they seek to develop wildlife conservation solutions through reproductive biotechnology.

Reprocon Organization researchers carried out for the first time in history, in July of 2020, testicular ultrasonography assessment on a free life, 116 pound male jaguar. The procedure was performed with our portable Duo-Scan:Go.

Scanning a Rhinoceros

Taman Safari(Rhinoceros) (6)
Product used: ExaGo

Our team was able to visit the Taman Safari Park in Bogor in West Java, Indonesia. While there, Park Veterinarians were able to easily scan animals without having to bring each of them to the Vet Hospital, instead they used our portable ultrasound with interchangeable probes to scan onsite.

WORLD EARTH DAY (1)

At IMV, our products promote the preservation of genetic diversity and the use of selective breeding done efficiently and responsibly.

We believe that the management of animal genetic resources, including preventing the extinction of animal breeds, is an important part of what we do. We're entirely grateful for our partners in the industry who help us move forward with keeping our world full of life's beauty.

Happy day, Mother Earth.
